Chiron Square Nadir | Midheaven

When Chiron is square Nadir | Midheaven, you have a lot on your plate. If the square is close (less than 3°), it is likely that the Chironic journey is a major part of your life. It’s on stage one, and it reverberates through multiple other areas because it is so core. Of course, knowing your birth time with some confidence is important here because Earth turns so quickly. As Melanie Reinhart points out, though, Chiron can often reveal what house it sits in. See Chiron and the Healing Journey. Let’s delve into how Chiron square Nadir (I.C.) and Midheaven (M.C.) affects us.

Horizon (Ascendant–Descendant)

If you are using tight orbs, Chiron square Nadir could mean that it sits in your 1st or 7th house (possibly 2nd/8th or 12th/6th), so this is a very poignant placement. It affects you simultaneously in multiple ways. If Chiron sits in the 1st, it may also be your rising planet, i.e., the first body transiting your Ascendant after birth. In this case, its influence increases significantly. Chiron’s wound and healing process is inseparable from your experience of the world, how you see it, as it sees you. As the primary symbolism of the 1st house is your first impulse upon incarnation, all first impulses and new situations that demand first impulses tend to trigger Chiron’s energy. In your younger years, you may experience new situations and milieux as painful, been judged harshly in new schools, foster homes, etc. Consequently, you may be likely to avoid new situations until you reach the healing stage of Chiron’s Wound and Healing Journey. During the healing phase, you probably discover that you are brilliant in new situations and can help others, too.

If you have Chiron in the 7th, you experience Chiron’s wounding and healing through intimate relationships with therapists, professionals with whom you interact “behind closed doors,” and romantic and business partners. Given that Chironic wounds usually first present when you are young, your pattern may have started with the parent of the opposite sex who may well have had inappropriate boundaries with you. You experience pain through relating to an other. It is likely that you never learned to establish and maintain boundaries with intimate others because it was not modeled for you: in the 7th house, we have two (ideally) whole individuals who become intimate. They remain whole and confront each other with their different wills; hence the Libran need to strive for fairness and grace between me and you. This whole sphere is likely to be fraught with mixed feelings, fear, anger. You don’t know where you start, what your will is, or you form relationships with others who don’t know, so you dominate them or are dominated by them. Later in your Chironic journey, you come to learn that you are gifted in this whole me-you-us business. You may well become a healer of some kind.

Of course, Chiron’s sign and close (±2°) aspects will temper these descriptions, but they can set the context for the main subject, when Chiron is square Nadir (and Midheaven). If Chiron is within 5-7° of your horizon (Ascendant–Descendant), the above descriptions are all the stronger. If Chiron sits in an introspected sign or is retrograde, its expression varies (see posts).

Chiron always means gold in the areas it touches, but you have to dig for it, sometimes for a long time. We usually experience its wounds in our earthly life, but we often experience its healing journey spiritually.

Chiron Square Nadir

Wounding in your roots, cannot be safe, nowhere to hide. Trouble at home, unsafe home, something is wrong at home. Aussteiger. Don’t fit in the land in which you were born. Shame and fear around your home country. Shame, pain, and abuse in family of origin.

4th house usually symbolizes father and the 10th mother, or caregivers who serve in those roles. Chiron square Nadir indicates pain and wounding from the paternal caregiver, and the maternal caregiver. There is likely to be strife between nurturing, authority, and a lack of guidance for you to understand and engage in the world.

The 4th house is where you take your experience of having your first impulse, learning to use your body and other resources to enable you to act on your first impulse, and your exploration of your close environment (roughly, your first six-eight years of life) to create a sense of self, who you are in relation to the people around you. Based on your first impulse (Ascendant), experience with possessions and resources (2nd house) and exploration of your close environment (3rd house), you create a sense of who you are. Chiron in 1st or 7th has affected your ability to have this sense of self. You may not even understand the concept of a self. Yes, you know what the word “self” means, but it is likely to be a void in you. You probably feel a hollowness. You may not know what you really like, what you really want to “do,” or anything.

Healing is also indicated somehow in family of origin. Wounding and healing involved in family of origin. Parents are ministers, psychologists, doctors, wise women, medicine men. Sickness and healing involved in family. Possibly wounding or sexual abuse by healers, especially if Pluto, Uranus, or Saturn has a close square, inconjunct, octile, or opposition to Chiron or Nadir.

Chiron Square Midheaven

Entering the world, often finishing school, can be a crisis because you may not have any idea of who you are, what your gifts are, what “to do” in the world. Depending on the closeness of the square and other aspects, you may have a long journey to discover these things. See the Nadir post to understand the meridian dynamic.

Other things you may experience are: a wound in career, having no recognition or reputation. No social influence. No social office, no significance in terms of society. Feeling shame about your reputation and lack of social standing. Underemployment. No sense of who you are. No sense about how to interface with the world, how to manage, how to explain your “value” in terms of roles or companies. You probably look at other people and wonder how they do it. You feel a lack when trying to find “where you fit,” where you can be recognized and rewarded.

Chiron always means gold in whatever areas it touches, but you have to dig for it, sometimes for a long time. When you do, you can discover your gold (here, your sense of self), and your journey, wounding, healing, and gratitude afford you extensive integrity and reputation. Depending how Chiron square Midheaven is integrated into your overall chart, you may become a healer yourself and be known for it.

Transits

Transits to your Natal Chiron can be exacting teachers because they fire it up along with its aspects. One of the most revealing ways to study transits is to realize that every transit of every planet begins a cycle when it conjoins Chiron. Moon does this every month when it touches your Chiron. That’s analogous to new moon, the start of the cycle, so it squares Chiron twice and opposes it once. It sextiles and trines it, too. This same dynamic happens with Mercury, Venus, and the other planets.

The outer planets are most noticeable because they move more slowly. Mars sparks bouts of Chiron while Jupiter can result in profound insights. Saturn puts Chiron under the microscope, enables you to re-experience it in slow motion. Uranus presents surprises and upsets, confronts you with some facet of your Chironic Journey. Neptune can have several effects, from imaginative, intuitive insights, often through nonverbal means, to confusion. Pluto usually confronts Chiron with transformation. Of course, Chiron transits itself, too, so you get a double dose during those times.

The outer planets often transit three times, so their conjunctions, squares, oppositions, trines, quintiles, etc. can happen three times, in direct–retrograde–direct motion.
