Over the last week, I have realized something astounding that I want to share tonight, a surprising side effect of Ego’s having agreed to sit in the back seat of the car while Spirit drives. In short, I have become aware of sex at a completely new level. As much as I love touching my lover physically, emotionally and spiritually, I have realized how limiting sex is, that it imposes a huge cost on relationships, and when it is absent, relationships can accelerate.
If I were reading this, I would think the writer was completely bats, and my mind would imagine how many ways he could be weird or crazy or repressed or… That said, I invite you to join me on this short exploration: it might enable you to transform some of your relationships in surprising ways. I recently had an earnest discussion with a friend who is trying to let go of many things that aren’t working for her. After I’d shared how I’d accidentally discovered how to let go of many deep intense things in my life, she asked me how I’d done it, a very complicated question. My gut’s response will probably surprise you. (Incidentally, I’ve been helped, er pressured, to jettison many things as Pluto has transited my 12th house—loosely, unconscious baggage—but that’s not the focus here). I hope this post helps you, too. Continue reading “On Letting Go”
This post offers some insights and practices for how ego and spirit can work together to empower you in relationship to your self and, by extension, to other people and the universe. These practices have helped me to create immense freedom for myself, and I give this freedom to other people, which creates joy and more harmony in the world. This series extends Don Miguel Ruiz’s The Four Agreements, which I’ll summarize here and build on.
The Four Agreements is a kind of handbook of ancient Toltec wisdom, and I highly recommend it. If you haven’t read it, Toltec Spirit has an excellent summary. I find that the book offers a rare approach to relating to oneself and other people through the four agreements, which are practices that help readers live with more spirit. Ruiz doesn’t refer to ego and spirit, but his stated goal is to help readers live with spirit, to take back what they lost during “domestication.” The four agreements are: Continue reading “Ego and Spirit in Relationship: The Four Agreements”
It is New Year’s Eve, so a natural time to think about what I’ve done this year, and what the new year might hold. 2017 has been a blockbuster year for me, and I note that the unequivocal answer to what I’ve done this year is that I have thrown away many things. Throwing away things is scary for me, but is so liberating! Here’s how I’ve done it and how you might be able to use the concept to create amazing change in your life. You may have noticed that I use the verb “imagine” very often; if not, I’ll point out that I do, and it’s a significant part of how I approach my life. Because I observe that I know few things. To me, knowing implies a high degree of certainty, and ignorance is closer to uncertainty. Continue reading “The Most Honest Verb”
I have learned that Unconscious can extend my awareness very far beyond Ego. I have learned so much from dream interpretation, and I am humbled by it.
I associate Ego most closely with my intellect and conscious mind, so I’m most aware of Ego. I became aware of Unconscious in stages, and I have found that Unconscious enriches my awareness and life incredibly. Continue reading “Unconscious and Dreams”
Based on my readings of literature in sociology, biology and evolutionary anthropology (for one, Dunbar’s Grooming, Gossip, and the Evolution of Language), I appreciate that humans’ brains consume 20% of our total energy although the brain is only 2% of our body weight.
Think about that stat a minute. Our brains are our bodies’ equivalent to mainframes. Very scarce and expensive equipment. Costly to operate. Continue reading “Evolutionary Riff on “Judgment””
