Pluto’s energy has been prominent in clients’ charts lately, and I am reflecting on how its energy manifests in people’s lives.
Pluto is one of the most exciting and transformational energies I know—and one of the least understood, so I’ll offer these thoughts and ideas for working with its energy as it manifests in all of our lives.
Astrology is ancient, and it has a lot of baggage, much of which is due to the ancient practice of using astrology for “fortune telling,” “predicting” the future. Many people who prize the idea of free choice reject astrology and other esoteric practices because they don’t like the idea of some mysterious force controlling their lives. As I love free choice and responsibility, I can appreciate this point of view. At the same time, within it lurks some misconceptions, so here I offer a brief reflection about astrological energies and what they really mean, so we can get to how astrology can empower people. Chiron was officially discovered in 1977, so its use in astrology is relatively new—and breakthrough. I have experienced its transformational power in my own life and observed it in clients’. To work with Chiron’s energy, to touch its magic, we need to suspend several cultural norms, so I will touch on these here after briefly describing “the Chironic Process,” which begins with an “innocent bystander” wound that one can transform into healing and gratitude. Do you feel a deep sense that our world is in some kind of cosmic quicksand? That our whole way of life seems to be slipping away or sinking down out of sight? That our institutions seem too inept or self-involved to do anything about it?
Most citizens of the USA feel a pervasive, profound sense of confusion, frustration, and fear at a rare level. We have a deadly and mysterious virus that impacts people very differently. We have a politics that, regardless of one’s affiliation, is uniformly ugly and getting uglier. We have deepening economic calamity with no end in sight. Above all, we have uncertainty.
The United States of America is nearing its first Pluto return, and this post will reveal its effects on the country and its citizens. I will also assert that this Pluto return is a global phenomenon because it is simultaneously the Pluto return of the Industrial Economy as well, so all countries and peoples are affected. Here are some highlights:
How the USA’s 2020 general election has a much larger importance than its seems—and why who “wins” will have little significance.
Why President Trump serves as a catalyst for profound change in the USA.
Why many of these same dynamics will play out in all industrial economies, regardless of their politics.
How the consumerist economy’s glorification of material things will lose importance.
What is the spiritual meaning of the uncertainty, fear, and anger that many people feel.
Why Health “care” will (finally) change radically, involuntarily, into a less capitalistic system.
How we feed ourselves will become drastically slimmed down and more nourishing.
Why the power-obsessed political system and government structures will be transformed beyond recognition.
How we’re at a turning point: what happens will depend on how we take responsibility for ourselves individually and collectively.
This is an astrological black queen, and when you are dealt it, you have a lot in your hand.
Each of these bodies signifies an explicit process: Pluto’s transformation and Chiron’s healing encapsulate several phases, so the opposition carries myriad variations. Pluto’s process starts with the pressure to release, to let die, and when the native resists, it destroys. Then comes the process of regeneration. Chiron’s process starts with an unwarranted wound, a series of realizations and attempts to heal, acceptance of the inability to heal it completely, wisdom/gratitude in ideal cases, and the desire to help others heal. This opposition puts these bodies in a polarity. These facts are the basis of how it works. Continue reading “Pluto Opposition Chiron”→
Over the last week, I have realized something astounding that I want to share tonight, a surprising side effect of Ego’s having agreed to sit in the back seat of the car while Spirit drives. In short, I have become aware of sex at a completely new level. As much as I love touching my lover physically, emotionally and spiritually, I have realized how limiting sex is, that it imposes a huge cost on relationships, and when it is absent, relationships can accelerate.
If I were reading this, I would think the writer was completely bats, and my mind would imagine how many ways he could be weird or crazy or repressed or… That said, I invite you to join me on this short exploration: it might enable you to transform some of your relationships in surprising ways. I recently had an earnest discussion with a friend who is trying to let go of many things that aren’t working for her. After I’d shared how I’d accidentally discovered how to let go of many deep intense things in my life, she asked me how I’d done it, a very complicated question. My gut’s response will probably surprise you. (Incidentally, I’ve been helped, er pressured, to jettison many things as Pluto has transited my 12th house—loosely, unconscious baggage—but that’s not the focus here). I hope this post helps you, too. Continue reading “On Letting Go”→
Last week, I released Drive to Trust’s Cohort One, which includes Teens Cook, a program to help organizations that help teens to cook their own food. In connection with Teens Cook, I’ve been conducting some ethnographic research on families, cooking, eating habits and food. After several hours of this, I noticed an astounding thing: although there are organizations and people who try to help teens and families improve their health by learning home cooking, they focus on recipes. And I’ll argue here that cooking with recipes is not really cooking because it omits the two most important parts of cooking: practicality and creativity. I hope that this short riff will help you discover the secret that’s hidden in plain view, that unlocks the true power of cooking for yourself and your loved ones—and loving it.
Cooking with recipes is not really cooking because it omits the two most important parts of cooking: practicality and creativity.
It is New Year’s Eve, so a natural time to think about what I’ve done this year, and what the new year might hold. 2017 has been a blockbuster year for me, and I note that the unequivocal answer to what I’ve done this year is that I have thrown away many things. Throwing away things is scary for me, but is so liberating! Here’s how I’ve done it and how you might be able to use the concept to create amazing change in your life.Continue reading “Do You Want Change in Your Life? Create a Vacuum!”→
